Diterpenes are derived from geranylgeranyl diphosphate. The most common and biologically important is phytol, a precursor of chlorophyll and tocopherols (vitamin E). Other dietary important molecules in diterpenes include stevioside ([[Species:Stevia|''Stevia rebaudiana'']], [[:Category:Asteraceae|Asteraceae]]) used as a non-caloric sweetener and ginkgolides ([[Species:Ginkgo|''Ginkgo biloba'']], [[:Category:Ginkgoaceae|Ginkgoaceae]]), a family of diterpene trilactones that are believed to work for anti-aging (See [[Doc:Ginkgo|this page]] for detail). Paclitaxel, or Taxol, for anti-cancer agents from Pacific yew ([[Species:Taxus|''Taxus brevifolia'']], [[:Category:Taxaceae|Taxaceae]]) is also a diterpene.
